The 2020 Young Sportsperson of the Year award went to Oisin O’Callaghan after wining a first ever downhill gold for Ireland at the Junior World Mountain Bike Championships in Austria. It was O’Callaghan’s first ever race at that level. The 17-year-old followed up his win in Austria with two stage wins at the recently held World Cup competition in Portugal.
After a massive year in 2020, 2021 has started off with Oisin on the top step once more but this time on Irish soil as young sports person of the year. The FX Supplements athlete Oisin O Callaghan achieved one of his childhood dreams and became Junior Downhill World Champion. Oisin became the first Irish rider to win a Downhill mountain bike world title when he won in 2020 to become Junior World Champion, Oisin then continued his rich vein of form claiming gold at the UCI MTB World Cup in Maribor, Slovenia soon after.
Our partnership with team Oisin O Callaghan (now 00) started almost four years ago in collaboration with our sister company The Nadura Clinic. It began with a conversation with his dad, mentor and in our opinion the most critical component of Oisin’s success, Chris O Callaghan. Lee our director at was presenting the advances in sports performance nutrition, testing and ergogenic aids with Chris and they were comparing “then & now” when Oisin was mentioned as was his ambition, and this quickly developed into a consultation at The Nadura Clinic.
When we met Oisin for the first time he was a young boy, small in stature (That didn’t last for long) but he had massive drive and ambition. I remember asking Oisin the question. Right Ois, what’s the goal? and within a millisecond without a breath he confidently said the words “WORLD CHAMPION” and the rest truly now is history as he has already made Irish history.
